How to successfully sell on eBay and increase traffic your web site



Selling online can be quite a daunting experience especially if you don’t have the time to search the Internet for hours and hours for that small piece of information.
As a beginner myself, I have found that all relevant information and material you need to know to sell successfully on eBay is dispersed all over the place or maybe should I say not structure in an easy to follow steps.
My teaching (maths, I know I’m a nerd but a pleasant one, honest!) background entices to do things logically and so having a predefined path or route to achieve something is crucial. Not only it makes life easier but also it gives you an overview of what needs to be done in order to start running your online business.

I am going to layout this guide just like a “ To do list”. After completing one part, you can tick it off and move on. I hope this concept will make things a little easier.

This guide is mainly targeted to get you up and running. Before we move on to more detailed stuff, we need to make sure we have our accounts ready. This includes Pay pal, eBay and the last, which will be used to cross-promote your items for free once your auctions are up and running, Vendio.

Ok here are the links you need to get you started for eBay, Paypal and Vendio. Follow their registration procedure and you should be fine. Everything is explained there so don’t panic !!


For eBay, follow the link. Just to let you know that you will need a landline number, credit card and bank details. This is needed to confirm your identity and to get paid too!

Ok I am not going to reinvent the wheel and write info, which is widely available on the Internet. Just google it!!!!!!!( why sell online).

Auction Programs

So far I have come across 2 unique programs, which will be beneficial if you want to sell a lot of items on eBay. The problem with listing items on eBay one by one, can be time consuming. Personally I am using Garagesale because I have a Mac book and turbo-lister is not compatible. So if you have a pc, you should use turbo-lister, as it is completely free of charge.


Ok, why do we need to use such program in the first place?

Below you will find the features you need to make our listing stand out from the crowd.

Presentation or impression is key for successful selling and getting a high number of bid and views.
Yes, other factor will affect your listing but think about it, would you buy from someone who presents his or her items inappropriately? i.e. poor description, poor images and flat and dead looking auctions.

The other advantage of using Garagesale and Turbo-lister is that you do not need to know any html as they both have template ready made for you. This will increase your traffic for sure. However if you want to add your own html code, it can easily be inserted in the editor.

Turbo-lister and Garagesale will save you a huge amount of time compared to the eBay website where you need to type in the same description, categories and other information again and again. I’m not going to give you all the details about those programs in this guide, as the information is available in the following links:

As with any programs, you will need to spend some time to get used to the user interface. This requires couple of hours. Read the help instructions etc and you should be fine. If you have any question about Garagesale, you can always email me directly. A word of warning, I have not used Turbo lister, therefore will not be able to help.
Ok now you should have a program you can rely on to put up all your auctions online. On the next part, I am going to give you some pointers, to increase the number of people to see your auctions and increase the chances of getting a sale, by creating bidding wars between several customers.

Nowadays most email accounts allow you to set up one, which can be inserted automatically with a link to your eBay store. Use it to your advantage, as this is free marketing.
